3 Nephi 2:1

Here's my verse for the week:

and the people began to forget those signs and wonders which they had heard, and began to be less and less astonished at a sign or a wonder from heaven, insomuch that they began to be hard in their hearts, and blind in their minds, and began to disbelieve all which they had heard and seen

For context, the Nephite people spoken about here had received promises of miraculous signs of the birth of Jesus Christ, and those signs happened. And then, within a short amount of time, the people began to forget the signs, and worse still, become impervious to seeing the miraculous - past, present, and future.

I want to remember this verse because it shows how capable people are to forget and reject their own past. That something so distinct and vibrant can be forgotten is disturbing! Even more troubling is how that act of forgetting becomes a rebellion that changes how the present and future are considered.

In that light, I want to remember how some prophecies (through my patriarchal blessing) I received when I was 17 came to fruition.

  1. That I would always be able to provide for my family - I have been a graduate student for a lot of my adult life, and through various housing miracles and stipends and side jobs, we always had enough to provide for our growing family.
  2. That I would have a family much like the one I came from - beyond the fact that the distribution and ordering of children's genders matched exactly my family growing up, the kids are all like my siblings: good hearts, quick to laugh and forgive, and loyal to one another.
  3. That I would not just be married in the temple but have a celestial marriage - Angela is such a gift in my life. She is gentle and optimistic and loves what is good. Our marriage is celestial in that it has many of the fruits of Heaven: peace, longsuffering, goodness, faith, joy, love.

I hope to remember these things and continue to see them fulfilled!
